Call for Nominations – Faculty and Staff Awards

Each year at our Convocation ceremonies, the University is proud to recognize outstanding members of our community who have made significant contributions in the areas of teaching, research, community service, community awareness, self-governance, and commitment to students.

The Faculty & Staff Awards Committee is pleased to invite members of our community to nominate individuals for consideration for these awards. Nominations are being accepted for the following awards:

The Clifford J. Robson Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence

Traditionally awarded at the Spring Convocation ceremony, the Robson Award was established in memory of Dr. Clifford J. Robson, one of The University of Winnipeg’s finest teachers and a tireless worker on behalf of students. This award commemorates Dr. Robson’s contribution to the teaching of psychology, and recognizes a University faculty member who shares Dr. Robson’s reputation for dedication and love of teaching.

The Erica and Arnold Rogers Award for Excellence in Research

Traditionally awarded at the Spring Convocation ceremony, the Rogers Award was established by Erica and Arnold Rogers, friends of The University of Winnipeg. Dr. Rogers was a medical doctor who, together with his wife Erica, valued the contribution by faculty members to research and scholarship. All members of the University faculty are eligible.

The Clarence Atchison Award for Excellence in Community Service

The purpose of the Atchison Award is to give recognition to an employee of The University of Winnipeg for excellence in community service, and was established in the name of Mr. Clarence Atchison, a former Chair of the University’s Board of Regents. All employees of the University are eligible for this award. This award is traditionally presented at the Fall Convocation ceremony.

The Marsha Hanen Award for Excellence in Creating Community Awareness

The purpose of the Hanen Award is to give recognition to an employee of The University of Winnipeg for excellence in creating awareness of the University in the external community, and was established by former President of the University, Dr. Marsha Hanen. All employees of the University are eligible for this award. This award is traditionally presented at the Fall Convocation ceremony.

The Robin H. Farquhar Award for Excellence in Contributing to Self-Governance

Traditionally awarded at the Spring Convocation ceremony, the Farquhar Award was established by former President of The University of Winnipeg, Dr. Robin Farquhar. Its purpose is to publicly recognize and appreciate the willingness and ability of the University’s employees to contribute to the autonomous governance of the University, necessary to foster independent and disciplined thought and rigorous inquiry, and sound decision making.

Stars of Spence Street Prize

Traditionally awarded at the Spring Convocation ceremony, the Stars of Spence Street Prize recognizes a University of Winnipeg staff member with long and dedicated service, who has a passion for student learning and a demonstrated commitment to supporting our students in achieving their educational goals. The intent of this award is to recognize the unsung heroes of the University.

Campus Sustainability Recognition Award

This award recognizes meritorious contributions by faculty and support staff with respect to campus sustainability. To be consistent with principles of promoting sustainability, this award is conceived as primarily honorary in nature, rather than material or incurring consumption of new resources. Recipients must have made significant contributions to promoting the environmental, social and/or economic sustainability of The University of Winnipeg either over their entire career with the University, or specifically during the past academic year. Please note that the recipient of this award cannot be a manager or employee of the Campus Sustainability Office.
