Audit Services

Audit Services was established by the University of Winnipeg’s Board of Regents to serve as the internal audit function for the University. Audit Services’ purpose, authority, and responsibilities are outlined in the University of Winnipeg Audit Charter, approved by the Audit & Risk Committee of the Board of Regents and the University’s President & Vice-Chancellor.

Purpose

Audit Services’ purpose is to provide independent, objective assurance and consulting services for the University designed to add value and improve the University’s operations. Audit Services aims to help the University accomplish its objectives through the following activities:

  • Assessing and recommending improvements in the University’s risk management, governance, and control processes
  • Conducting reviews of operations in areas of institutional priority
  • Working with university faculty and staff to enhance knowledge and skills around effective administrative practices
  • Informing senior leaders of emerging risks and possible impacts on university operations
  • Providing value added consulting services

Audit Services is also responsible for participating in the investigation of suspected fraud and irregularities at the University. The Director of Audit Services acts as the University’s Designated Officer for the purpose of The Public Interest Disclosure (Whistleblower) Act and related University of Winnipeg Protected Disclosure Policy.

Scope of Work

The scope of work of Audit Services includes all units, affiliated and associated entities, and operations of the University. 

Work may include the assessment of compliance with policy and other standards, accuracy of information, risk management processes, operational efficiency, control design and effectiveness, and governance processes.

Independence

To provide for the independence of the Audit Services Department, the Executive Director of Audit Services reports functionally to the Audit & Risk Committee of the Board of Regents

Audit Services reports administratively for day-to-day operations to the Vice-President, Finance and Administration as designated by the President.
