Classics of Spanish Literature
SPAN 3710 – Classics of Spanish Literature – Winter 2021
In this course students study three classics of Spanish literature: The Life of Lazarillo de Tormes, by an anonymous author; the first part of Don Quixote, by Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra; and Life is a Dream, by Pedro Calderón de la Barca. Students discuss and analyze the historical, socio-cultural, intertextual, metatextual, and self-referential implications of these works, as well as their influence in other arts such as painting and cinema. NOTE: This course is cross-listed with ENGL and MOD.
