The University of Winnipeg is celebrating Pride 2023 with festivities on and off campus!

2023 Events

Flag Raising | Monday, May 29 – 10:00 a.m.

Join your fellow UWinnipeg community members as we hoist the Progress and Two-Spirit flags on campus in celebration of Pride week. The ceremony will take place on the lawn in front of Wesley Hall. Convocation Hall will act as an alternative location in the event of inclement weather.

Teach-In Luncheon | Monday, May 29 – Lunch (12–12:30 p.m.) & Teach-In (12:30–2 p.m.)

Taking place in Convocation Hall, this luncheon about 2SLGBTQ+ awareness and contemporary issues is moderated by Danielle Bitz and features Dr. Reece Malone, Elder Albert McLeod, and Vanessa Tait. The discussion focuses on creating an inclusive environment, considerations for systems/onboarding, and language. Elder McLeod will start the teach-in by sharing the history of Two Spirit people on this land. This event is co-sponsored by UWinnipeg's Human Resources department, Pride Committee, Department of Women’s and Gender Studies, and Indigenous Engagement.

Drag Story Time | Tuesday, May 30 – 1:00 p.m..

Hosted by the UWinnipeg Students' Association, join local drag artists as they present story time at the UWinnipeg library.

Alumni Reception, Film Screening & Panel Discussion | Wednesday, May 31 – 11:30 a.m.

The University of Winnipeg Archives, Alumni Affairs, and Pride Committee are proud to present the 30th anniversary screening of the National Film Board-produced documentary OUT: Stories of Lesbian and Gay Youth.

Join us in the lobby of Eckhardt Gramatté Hall at 11:30 a.m. for a light lunch and refreshments courtesy of Alumni Affairs and Diversity Catering, view the Two-Spirit Archives pop-up exhibition, and visit the Pride merch booth! After the 12:30 p.m.. screening, please stay for a panel discussion with film participants Elder Albert McLeod and Connie Merasty, moderated by Adrienne Huard.

Parade Information Session | Thursday, June 1 – 12:30 p.m.

This orientation is for anyone who would like to walk in the UWinnipeg Pride Parade on Sunday, June 4. Those who have registered to participate in the Pride Parade can join us, in-person, in room 1C16A at 12:30 p.m.. Registrants will also be able to collect their free UWinnipeg Pride t-shirt at the orientation event.

(Note: Registrants will only be able to receive their free t-shirt at this event.)

CKUW 2SLGBTQ+ Radio Marathon | Friday, June 2 – 1:00–5:00 p.m..

Are you a 2SLGBTQ+ UWinnipeg student or community member who wants to show your Pride over the airwaves in Winnipeg? The CKUW Pride Radio Marathon is open for registration!

CKUW is offering airtime for you to show your passion for music, arts, culture, poetry, and politics. We'll provide the technical help, and you'll provide the content. Time slots are 30 minutes each and individuals can book up to one hour.

All are invited to tune in from wherever they are or visit to The Hive to listen and join the Pride Sign Making!

Pride Parade | Sunday, June 4 – Meet at 9:00 a.m. (Parade starts at 11:00 a.m.)

All are invited to join UWinnipeg as we walk in the Pride Parade!

Meet on campus at 9:00 a.m. to take a commemorative photo in front of Wesley Hall before walking to the rally or meet at the Manitoba Legislative Building for 10:00 a.m. Parade leaves the Manitoba Legislature Building at 11:00 a.m.
