Ininiwikistayikewin

Sarah DeLaronde was honoured to continue her work with Ininiwikistayikewin, a grassroots Indigenous seed library seeks to provide seeds and resources to help Indigenous peoples grow food in Manitoba. By distributing seeds into the hands of Indigenous peoples, over time, seeds will be returned. This exchange will create a library where people can take seeds to grow and return them for others to access. Reclaiming space as Indigenous people within the natural world and recalling ancestral knowledge about plants is just as important as revitalizing language, ceremony, traditional childrearing, etc. Sarah carried many roles within this project during the summer and is happy to have gotten more experience in project management and social media management.

“I think reconnecting with the land is an essential part of remembering the resilience and tenacity of our ancestors. Working with the seeds reminded me of how important it is to take care of our communities, however we can. That is truly the reclamation of traditional ways of knowing, being and doing. I’m thankful for all the teachings as I finish MDP and move on to employment.”
