Nontokozo Ndlovu's placement was with Manitoba Metis Federation, Housing and Property Management department. The Metis Nation signed an accord with the government to implement the Reaching Homes program. The program is a community-based program that allows for self determination of communities in housing and other issues that put people at the risk of losing housing. Realizing how high the numbers of people experiencing homelessness, her role was to research the needs of Metis people experiencing homelessness. The Needs Assessment detailed the history of Metis people and how it contributes to homelessness, the number of Metis people who have used the shelters in the last 6 months, the Reaching Homes partners and their responsibility and the needs of people experiencing homelessness. Metis have a self-governing government, Nontokozo connected with other departments like Metis Child and family services and Metis Justice Institute to understand their role in helping their clients with housing. The Reaching Homes program aims at reducing the numbers of people experiencing homeless and the hope that those who get housing maintain housing.
