Jasmin Winter travelled to Honolulu, O'ahu, Hawai'i for three months to do her placement with the organization We Are Oceania (WAO). The team at WAO works to encourage self-sufficiency amongst Micronesians, the most recent migrant group to Hawai'i. Their goal is to become an official 501(c)(3) charity in order to provide a one-stop centre for Native Pacific Islanders to navigate Hawaiian and American systems while maintaining their home traditions. They envision a world where Indigenous peoples are respected and honoured as part of the local culture of success. Jasmin supported this vision by working on digital storytelling projects, and produced a total of four short videos in collaboration with WAO.
