2015 Winning Teams in the 44th Annual Duckworth Great Rock Climb

Many came out to cheer the teams of three who raced to scale the giant rock on the lawn of Wesley Hall in the Annual Great Rock Climb, Friday, September 11th.

The brainchild of President Emeritus Dr. Henry E. Duckworth, the 25-ton granite boulder called the Rock of Remembrance was placed on the front lawn of The University of Winnipeg on October 7, 1971. It commemorates the 100th anniversary of Manitoba College, a founding college of what is now The University of Winnipeg.

No one can seem to match the remarkable record time of 9.8 seconds set by a 1979 team - but these three teams with the fastest times did an admirable job! They were cheered on by Wesmen mascot, Wes-Lee Coyote, and Education Minister, James Allum, who acted as event host and commentator.  Among the many staff, faculty and students out to cheer on the athletes, were members of the Duckworth family, including Dr. Duckworth's wife, Shirley (photo below, far left). It was lots of fun on a beautiful fall day. See you next year!
