Jim Silver is Professor and Chair of the Department of Urban and Inner-City Studies at The University of Winnipeg. He has a long history of working with community-based organizations in Winnipeg's inner city, and has published extensively on urban poverty and Winnipeg inner-city issues.

His latest book is Solving Poverty: Innovative Solutions from Winnipeg's Inner City, published in 2016 by Fernwood Publishing. He has recently been actively involved in the creation of Merchants Corner on Selkirk Avenue, an innovative educational and student housing complex.
