Transformational Research at the Human-Nature Interface: Linking the field, lab, and office in the changing contexts of geographical inquiry

We seek contributions for a series of sessions exploring the theme of transformational research in environmental resource governance, environmental geography, and sustainability. Paper sessions will be coupled with a roundtable that reflects on recent transformations in environmental research theory and practice. In this session, we take a broad approach to environmental research and aim to bring together scholars at all career stages from disparate geographical traditions and from across the human-physical divide to share insights on the changing contexts for research. To this end, we welcome papers from diverse conceptual, theoretical, empirical, and geographic perspectives on issues including, but not limited to, the following:

- Opportunities and challenges of community-engaged research on human-environment interactions;

- The relationship of funding program and institutional commitments to the content and conduct of environmental research;

- Methodological issues in investigating and engaging with emerging concepts such as resilience, sustainability, hybrid environments, neoliberal natures and the Anthropocene;

- Territoriality, jurisdiction, and the legal geographies of resource extraction;

- Climate change and the transformation of urban environmental relationships;

- Collaborative research designs among human and physical geographers in environmental research.

To be considered for inclusion in this session, please send an abstract (250 words max) to j.luedee@uwinnipeg.ca by March 15. This session is sponsored by the Environment and Resources Study Group.
