Dr. Henry Woltman Scholarship in Kinesiology and Applied Health
I would like to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude to the donors of the Dr. Henry Woltman Scholarship and to other financial aid contributors for supporting me this year.
I would like to illustrate what this help meant to me by providing some information about my background. I have spent the last 20 years of my life learning and working as a dance artist. I moved away from my home in Laval, Québec when I was 15 to come study dance in Winnipeg. This was a fulfilling experience that taught me a lot about what I value in myself, and what to value in others. Like many high-performance fields, it was grueling work that demanded all of my attention and dedication, and it took over my life. Nevertheless, I tried my best to continue taking part-time university classes while working, touring and performing. When the pandemic hit, I made the choice to return to school because I could no longer maintain consistent employment in my field. It was the first time since I was a teenager that dance stopped being my main focus. This was a terrifying transition that required a lot of soul searching, trauma breaking, and of course budgeting. Financial aid and awards not only allowed me to live and pay my mortgage each month, but offered a sense of validation, and a reminder that I had worth beyond dance. I no longer needed to hold on to this world as tightly as I had because it was the only thing I felt I knew how to do. Instead, I had the chance to study with extremely accomplished academics who gave me the tools I needed to gain a fresh understanding of my past experiences, and to be better equipped to tackle new ones.
I would like to conclude by expressing that I know how difficult it can be to witness the concrete ways in which your donations are having an impact on the lives of students. I hope this letter can be as validating of your efforts as your financial assistance was of mine. I extend my warmest gratitude to donors, and to my department for supporting my academic career.

The Awards Night of Excellence is a wonderful opportunity to acknowledge some of our best students. To all of our award winners in the Gupta Faculty of Kinesiology and Applied Health I extend a heartfelt congratulations for your success this year.
Students in our Faculty choose this academic path, in part, because they are motivated by the rewarding careers in health care that can be forged through our programs in kinesiology, physical education and athletic therapy. Student success at the undergraduate level is important and therefore, acknowledging the hard work for this success is very rewarding in itself.
