STEM Days

Inspiring curiosity, culture, and confidence in the next generation of STEM leaders.

Each year, more than 1,000 invited students and classes in Grades 3-8 from Winnipeg and First Nation communities come to the University of Winnipeg to participate in a full day of hands-on science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) activities. Indigenous knowledges, language, and culture are intentionally woven throughout the experience.

In our commitment to build pathways for underrepresented youth & provide local communities with access to the UWinnipeg campus, this event prioritizes inner-city, North End, and First Nation schools. Our team works with schools to support transportation within the city, and a light lunch is offered to all youth, volunteers, and teachers in attendance..

STEM Day takes place over two days and is designed as an immersive, hands-on learning experience. Since 2021, participants have engaged in more than 50 different interactive workshops, including drones, dry ice physics experiments, engineering challenges, robotics, bone science, stop-motion animation, 3D scanning and topography, rock identification, dendrochronology and a chemistry magic show.

By welcoming Indigenous and newcomer youth to the University of Winnipeg campus, we aim to create a sense of belonging and inspire participants to see post-secondary education as a real and attainable possibility for their future.
