Procedures for Securing a Primary Thesis Supervisor

Students are expected to approach a potential thesis advisor before enrolling in PSYC-4040 (Honours thesis). All Psychology Honours students registered in PSYC-4100 and successfully completed it, may enroll in PSYC-4040 for the following academic year. You need to fill out a survey (click on the link here), by March 1st, 2026.

  • We strongly encourage students to attend an information session about PSYC-4040 (Honours thesis course), which is held in the Winter term prior to your interested registration. This year it is being held on January 30 at 12:30 in room 4C40. 
  • The information session provides critical information about the thesis course, what it is, who should complete a thesis, requirements needed to enroll in thesis course, and how to secure a primary thesis supervisor.
  • Students are required to fill out a survey to indicate their interest in registering for PSYC-4040. 
  • Before filling out the survey, check out what types of research our faculty members conduct. See infographic. 
  • The survey will open following the information session. The required survey allows us to collect information about intended interest in enrolling PSYC-4040. We will ask you to identify faculty members with whom you would like to work in order of preference. Please note that listing faculty does not guarantee that you will be supervised by your top choices. 
  • You are encouraged to contact faculty members to request a meeting to discuss the possibility of completing your thesis under their supervision before completing the survey. This will allow you to see whether working with that Faculty member is a good fit for your research interest and career goals. 
  • It is important to note that although you will indicate your top faculty choices in this survey, you still need to reach out directly to any faculty member you are particularly interested in working with. It is NOT guaranteed that you will be supervised by your top choices. 
  • Please note that you are still required to meet honours requirements to enroll in PSYC-4040.
