FACULTY OF EDUCATION - JOINT PROGRAM

Technical Vocational Teacher Education

This is a diploma/degree joint program offered by RRC Polytech and The University of Winnipeg. The program further develops the teaching skills you require to be certified as a vocational teacher by Manitoba Education. The program is available on a full-time or part-time basis.

During the first 90 credit hours at RRC Polytech, you will study teaching methodology, the development and assessment of vocational courses, computer applications, and the design of facilities for delivery of vocational education programs. You will spend 18 weeks of the program in a teaching practicum at a local high school. For full details please visit Technical Vocational: RRC Polytech: Education (rrc.ca)

After applying to the program through RRC Polytech (which includes submitting the appropriate Red Seal, certificate of qualification or documented experience for your trade) and receiving acceptance, you will get credit for up to 45 credit hours toward the Vocational Training and Related Work Experience course.

Upon successful completion of the first 90 credit hours of the program, you will receive a diploma from RRC Polytech and be eligible for a Special Vocational Teaching certificate issued by Manitoba Education.

The remaining 60 credit hours are completed at The University of Winnipeg. Upon successful completion, you will receive a Bachelor of Education Degree with a major in vocational education from the University of Winnipeg.

Entrance Requirements

You must meet the entrance requirements at RRC Polytech when applying for this program (www.rrc.ca/voced). Successful completion of the first 90 credit hours (Technical Vocational Teacher Education Diploma) is the admission requirement to the Faculty of Education at The University of Winnipeg. An application to the Faculty of Education is required to commence studies in the final 60 credit hours of the Bachelor of Education program.
