Years 1-3: PRE-Chiropractic at The University of Winnipeg

To meet the entrance requirements of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, you will complete 90 hours of undergraduate study with a cumulative GPA of 2.50 on CMCC’s 4.0 grade point scale.  While there are recommended courses, there is no specific degree or program that is required for entry to the chiropractic program. Recommended courses are outlined below.

Each chiropractic school has its own entrance requirements. You must consult with the school where you plan to complete your studies to ensure you choose an appropriate set of courses, and that you will meet the entrance requirements for your Chiropractic program of choice.

Years 4-7: Professional Studies: Chiropractic

In your final year of pre-professional studies at The University of Winnipeg, you will apply for admission to a chiropractic school.  Admission to chiropractic is based on academic achievement, an essay, and a personal interview. At least four more years of study are required to complete a doctor of chiropractic degree.

There are two institutions offering chiropractic programs in Canada: the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in Toronto, and l’Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières. You may also consider studying in the United States or elsewhere. Most students who study Pre-Chiropractic at The University of Winnipeg will apply for admission to the CMCC, but you may choose to apply elsewhere. Students must complete 90 credit hours of study to qualify for admission to CMCC. CMCC does not have specific course prerequisites, however, they recommend that students have completed the following: 

• 6 credit hours of biology with a laboratory component
• 6 credit hours of organic chemistry with a laboratory component*
• 3 credit hours of introductory psychology
• 9 credit hours (minimum) in the humanities and/or social sciences
• a sufficient number of courses to make up three full years (90 credit hours) of study

*You need to take CHEM-1111(3) Introduction to the Chemical Properties of Matter and CHEM-1112(3) Basic Principles of Chemical Reactivity in first year, as they are prerequisites for CHEM-2202(3).

While the minimum grade requirement for applicants to the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College is a C+ average (GPA of 2.50 on a 4.00 scale), you should have a higher average to be competitive.

UW-CMCC ACADEMIC PATHWAY

Students pursuing the 4-Year Bachelor of Kinesiology (BKin) are eligible to apply to the UW-CMCC Academic Pathway, potentially qualifying them to apply for Advanced Entry Admission to the Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) program at Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College. Students would have the opportunity to apply to CMCC in their second year of study, and if accepted, begin at CMCC after completing their third year. Upon completing the 4-year Doctor of Chiropractic program at CMCC, students would be eligible to transfer one year worth of credit from the DC program to The University of Winnipeg, which would be used to complete the fourth year of the 4-Year Bachelor of Kinesiology (BKin). Students would then have completed two degrees in a period of 7 years, which would normally take 8 years.
