GLOBAL COLLEGE

Human Rights

Human Rights is an inter-disciplinary program which examines human rights in both local and global contexts as mechanisms to address issues of human dignity, social justice, and global citizenship.

The Human Rights program - offered through the Global College - provides students with the opportunity to structure their education around historical and contemporary human rights issues.  The program explores the origins and rise of human rights concepts, and the continuing evolution of human rights definitions and debates.  Through theory and practice, students acquire knowledge, tools, and strategies for education and advocacy in human rights, and an understanding of the ways to respond to human rights violations.  A major in Human Rights will expose students to human rights issues from diverse disciplinary perspectives including history, geography, philosophy, law, anthropology, and conflict resolution.  Students have the option to pursue a local or international practicum placement for academic credit towards their degree.

This program leads to a Bachelor of Arts degree (3-year or 4-year) with a Major in Human Rights.   Students taking an undergraduate degree in another Major may choose to add a Minor in Human Rights as a secondary area of interest
