Developmental Studies (Stream C)
Stream C: Child Development & Child Care/Early Childhood Education is a professional program within the area of developmental studies specifically designed for those who wish to obtain advanced early childhood education training. The University of Winnipeg offers the only degree-granting program in Early Childhood Education in Manitoba.
This joint program is offered in cooperation with either RRC Polytech or the Université de Saint- Boniface. The strength of this program is that it capitalizes on the expertise of each institution, providing a blend of academic and practical experience. You may begin the program at any of the three institutions.
As a student in Stream C, you choose one area of specialization - either Inclusion or Child Care Administration. You also take courses from a variety of different departments, as Development Studies is an interdisciplinary program that draws perspectives and methods from many disciplines.
This program leads to a 3-year Bachelor of Arts degree in Developmental Studies from The University of Winnipeg and a 2-year Diploma in Early Childhood Education from RRC Polytech or the Université de Saint-Boniface—in only four years. Under the Manitoba Department of Families, graduates of this stream are eligible for the highest level of classification–Early Childhood Educator III.
