THFM Presents: FORWARD by Chantal Bilodeau

UWinnipeg's Theatre and Film Department is pleased to present Forward, a poetic and humorous history of our relationship to the environment.

Set in Norway, the play contrasts the initial passion that drove explorer Fridtjof Nansen to the North Pole with present-day anxiety over the rapidly changing climate. Was Nansen tempted by a desire to discover or to conquer unchartered territories? His obsession is brought to life as a passionate love affair with the character of Ice. In the end, he leaves us to grapple with the consequences of the need for constant movement forward, for progress at any cost. The play is an engaging blend of theatre, opera, and electropop music. As Nansen’s journey to the North progresses forward we see the contemporary world move backward, with scenes spanning the year 2017 to 1893.

Performed by third-year Honours Acting class with technical and design support by Senior and Junior Production and Design students.

FORWARD runs from Tuesday, February 11 to Saturday, February 15, with showings at 7:30 p.m. each night. The Saturday, February 15 performance is an audio-described performance. Admission is free.
