The University of Winnipeg
Campus Sustainability Office
LAUNCH OF GREEN OFFICE PROGRAM - JANUARY 2014!
The Green Office Program is a voluntary self-assessment tool aimed at supporting office-level improvements in campus sustainability! If you are faculty or staff at University of Winnipeg we would like to invite you to participate! Please contact Teresa at firstname.lastname@example.org or (204)789-1478.
Over the course of 5 months, 5 sustainability themes will be explored:
- Compost, Recycling, and Waste
- Kitchen and Break Room
We hope to engage as many offices as possible, and identify at least one "Green Office Champion" from each department who would be a contact person between their office and the CSO. Their role would be to organize the participants to watch the monthly video, help distribute the calculator tool and weekly fact-sheets (essentially forwarding emails). Of course, their most important role will be to encourage everyone to participate! If you are interested, please contact Teresa!
WASTE REDUCTION WEEK ON CAMPUS!
Thank you to everyone who joined us in celebrating Waste Reduction Week in Canada- October 21st to 27th! Waste Reduction Week engages and empowers Canadians to reduce, reuse and recycle waste. We spoke to over 1000 students, faculty and staff members last week about our waste diversion program.
-We'd like to give a special thank you to those who volunteered to help out with bin-side education. Please click here to view a cheat sheet if you need clarification on what can and can't be recycled or composted on campus.
-Thank you to everyone who gave feedback on the compost/recycling program and our new bins, your input is valuable!
-The CBCRA (Canadian Beverage Container Recycling Association) gave away two bicycles and one jacket (made of recycled materials) to three awesome students who took the time to recycle on campus. Everyone should be sure to keep it up where-ever you go...good things happen when you recycle everywhere!
-The Waste Reduction Challenge raffle was a great success with approximately 500 entries. Our 3 lucky winners are: 1st prize: Tyson Kustiak ($75 Diversity gift card), 2nd prize: Jorie Reimer ($25 Diversity gift card), 3rd prize: Rachel Dunsmore (Camino chocolate and Numi tea). 1st Prize winner Tyson Kustiak is pictured below.
If you have any questions or feedback about anything sustainability related, we always appreciate it. Please contact Teresa from the Campus Sustainability Office at email@example.com.
