Laird Lecture - Dr. Gordon Pennycook: Dialogues with AI demonstrate the persuasiveness of facts and evidence

Although motivated reasoning makes people resistant to belief-challenging evidence, research shows AI can provide personalized counterevidence. Which produces durable belief change, including a 20% reduction in conspiracy beliefs. This effect persists despite strong incentives to reject the AI, failing only when AI cannot use facts or evidence. Hosted by the Department of Psychology.
