Reading and discussion with poet laureate Chimwemwe Undi
The Department of English Special Programs is delighted to host Chimwemwe Undi at Leatherdale Hall for a reading from her astounding debut collection, Scientific Marvel, which won the 2024 Governor General's Award for poetry.
Undi was Winnipeg's poet laureate in 2023-24, and has now been selected as Canada’s 11th parliamentary poet laureate for 2025-26. Undi’s poetry is located in Winnipeg’s geographies and localities, and offers new insights and questions on history, settler colonialism, race, gender and (un)belonging “in a recent nation where no one looks me in the eye”.
We are thrilled that Chimwemwe Undi is visiting us, and we warmly invite students and the wider community to attend.
Please forward any questions about Scientific Marvel that you would like to ask to k.sinanan@uwinnipeg.ca
