EDI Strategy and Assessment
The University of Winnipeg’s Involvement in Dimensions

In 2019, The University of Winnipeg endorsed the Tri-Agency Dimensions Charter and was selected as one of 17 Canadian postsecondary institutions to participate in the Dimensions pilot program.
This national initiative recognizes institutions working to advance equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) across research environments. It builds on international models such as Athena Swan and SEA Change, while expanding its focus to include all disciplines and a broader range of equity-deserving groups.
Over three years, UWinnipeg contributed to developing the Dimensions framework and conducted an institutional self-assessment to identify systemic barriers to EDI.
EDI Institutional Capacity-Building
The University of Winnipeg is committed to advancing equity in research in alignment with the Canada Research Chairs Program’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Action Plan .
This commitment includes addressing underrepresented in Chair positions among the four designated groups: women, persons with disabilities, Indigenous Peoples, and members of racialized communities.
The university’s Canada Research Chairs Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Plan has been in place since December 2017. Progress and updates are available on the EDI in the Canada Research Chairs Program page .
In 2019, UWinnipeg also received an NSERC Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Institutional Capacity-Building Grant .
This funding supports efforts to identify and remove systemic barriers affecting recruitment, retention, and career advancement, and has contributed to the development of the university’s EDI Action Plan.
