Valedictorian

It was her love of sports that, at least partially, helped Jen Schreibmaier find her path in post-secondary learning.

Schreibmaier was passionate about competition and athletics while in high school at Mennonite Brethren Collegiate Institute. Self-described as “accident prone,” she suffered some injuries along the way that convinced her she could have a purpose in helping others.

“The fields of health and medicine and the healthcare field in general were always very interesting to me. My past history of growing up playing sports and having injuries myself led me to want to help other people who were in the same position and want to get back to their daily activities,” Schreibmaier said.

She spent two seasons as an athletic therapist with the Wesmen women’s volleyball program and grew through that experience.

“Having been with the same team for multiple seasons helped me understand working with a sports team specifically,” she said. “Working with them the first year, I was nervous and didn’t know exactly what I was doing but then I grew with them and grew my own skills and relationships with them and that helped me branch out. I came to realize how important a role athletic therapy plays with sports teams.”

Graduating with a four-year Bachelor of Science (Athletic Therapy) degree, Schreibmaier moves on to the University of Manitoba, where she has been accepted into the Master of Physical Therapy program.
