Garry Leach

Donating time and funds to the UWinnipeg community

An alumnus of The University of Winnipeg Collegiate (67) and The University of Winnipeg (BA 70), Garry Leach has remained active within the University community through volunteer positions on the Alumni Association Council, as well as the Board of Regents. He is also the founding donor of the University’s Oral History Centre, to which he generously donated $500,000.

Leach has had an incredible career. Starting off in the scrap recycling industry in Selkirk, Manitoba, he is the owner of Belcher Island Smelting and Refining Corporation, and has served as president and CEO of MRM Steel (formerly Manitoba Rolling Mills). 

Leach has served as chair of Invest Manitoba; advisor to Arts Stabilization Manitoba and the University Of Manitoba's Department Of Continuing Education; and as a member of The Associates of the Asper Business School. He has shown his continuous dedication to Manitoba industry by serving as a member of the Premier’s Economic Innovation and Technology Council.

He is a founding member and former board member of The Business Council of Manitoba. He currently serves as a director of Pollard Banknote and recently retired as a longtime director of Manitoba Hydro Electric Board.

Leach and his wife Carol are proud parents of their two sons.
