Installation view: "Art'N Architecture Too: An installation by Robert W. Harrison" September 20 to October 25, 1992

Gallery 1C03 is a public, non-profit art gallery that opened at The University of Winnipeg during the 1986 – 1987 academic year. Our purpose is to provide the campus community, and our civic community at large, with opportunities to discover and contemplate visual and media arts in its many forms. Over the years, we have hosted over 70 exhibitions and we have welcomed over 100,000 visitors.

Our exhibitions reinforce the educational mandate of the University by linking to curricula in many disciplines, and by expanding the perspectives of our student body, faculty, and staff. Thus, we aim to highlight the value of art and culture as part of a well-rounded education, and to communicate it as an important point of interest in the cultivation of a passion for life-long learning. We show work in a variety of media that deals with questions concerning history, politics, technology, gender, sexuality, and ethnicity, among many other issues.

But we’re not just a campus gallery – we’re here for everyone! Admission is always free, so all are welcome to visit for chances to encounter challenging and critical works of art in ways that are accessible and thought provoking.

We typically highlight work by contemporary Manitoban and Canadian artists; however, we also present some historical shows, and we have exhibited work by contemporary artists from Australia, China, Finland, France, Germany, Mexico, Peru, Spain, Ukraine, and the United States, among other nations.

As mentioned above, we aim to support our exhibition programming with a range of free events including talks, screenings, tours, panel discussions, performances, and more! New opportunities are being developed all the time, so stay tuned!
