Bill Blaikie

Bill BlaikieA United Church Minister, the Hon. Bill Blaikie, PC.,has a BA in Religious Studies and Philosophy from the University of Winnipeg{73}, and a Master of Divinity Degree from Emmanuel College, Toronto School of Theology{77}. He was  a Member of Parliament from 1979 to 2008, during which time he served in a number of capacities, including Parliamentary Leader of the NDP, Deputy Speaker, and Dean of the House of Commons. He was Manitoba’s Minister of Conservation from 2009 to 2011.

Bill Blaikie’s political memoir, The Blaikie Report – An Insider’s Look at Faith and Politics, was published by United Church Publishing House in October 2011. Blaikie holds  honorary Doctorates in Divinity from both the University of Winnipeg, and Victoria University, Toronto. He was sworn in to the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada in 2003, was voted Parliamentarian of the Year by his peers in 2007, and  received the Distinguished Service Award from the Canadian Association of Former Parliamentarians in 2013.
