Michael Kehler


Michael Kehler Title: Associate Professor of Education, Western University


Dr. Michael Kehler is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Education at Western University where he teaches in graduate and preservice education. His research interests explore gender, literacies, body image, health, masculinities and the counter hegemonic practices of adolescent men. Funded by SSHRC for his national study in Canada examining male adolescent reluctance to participate in grade nine Health and Physical Education classes, Kehler has expanded his collaboration internationally between Canada, the UK and Australia. He is a CIHR grant recipient for several projects, including an international symposium, Speaking the Unspoken: Masculinities, bodies and body image as well as a Café Scientifique (Spring 2012). As a SSHRC Connections Grant (2016) recipient he hosted an International Symposium-Moving forward, Identities, sexting, schooled bodies and the curriculum that frames us. He is co-editor (with Michael Atkinson) of Boys’ Bodies; Speaking the Unspoken, and co-editor of The Problem with Boys’ Education: Beyond the Backlash with Drs. W. Martino and M. Weaver-Hightower, in addition to being published in such journals as the McGill Journal of Education, Canadian Journal of Education, Thymos: Journal of Boyhood Studies, Discourse: Studies in the Cultural Politics of Education, Journal of Adolescent and Adult Literacies, and the Journal of Curriculum Theorizing.
