Research Manitoba New Investigator Competition Operating Grant

Research Manitoba has launched the 2021 New Investigator Operating Grant Competition!

New Investigator Operating Grants are designed to defray the direct costs of research such as personnel costs, supplies and expendable materials, small equipment and computers, and knowledge mobilization/knowledge translation costs.

These funds are intended to support new investigators in Manitoba to establish independent research programs and achieve the research productivity necessary for obtaining long term research funding from national research funding agencies and/or other external research funding organizations.

New Investigator Operating Grants are two years in duration with the following maximum amounts:

  • Health - $130,000 ($65,000/year)
  • Natural Sciences and Engineering - $50,000 ($25,000/year)
  • Social Sciences and Humanities - $40,000 ($20,000/per year)

Application Deadline: Monday, March 1, 2021 (4:00PM CST)

Letters of Support Deadline Monday, March 15, 2021 (4:00PM CST)

*New* Page limits for the Details of the Research Proposal attachment have been changed to the following:

  • Health - maximum 10 pages
  • Natural Sciences and Engineering – maximum 6 pages
  • Social Sciences and Humanities – maximum 6 pages

*New for 2021 Competition* Research Manitoba is allowing applicants to provide an additional one page in their Details of the Research Proposal to describe the impact of COVID-19 on the applicant’s research program as of March 2020.
