UWinnipeg Research Data Management Information & Draft Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy

Fri. Jul. 13, 2018

The federal tri-agencies have developed a draft Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy, which aims to support Canadian research excellence by fostering sound digital data management and data stewardship practices. The policy includes suggested requirements related to institutional data management strategies, researcher data management plans and data deposit.  The agencies are accepting feedback from individuals and institutions on the draft policy until August 31, 2018.  You can view the draft policy, along with additional information at:

As part of the draft policy, any institution administering Tri-Agency funds is required to have an institutional research data management strategy.  The University of Winnipeg has been working on developing a plan for our strategy, with the Library taking the lead role and working closely with the Research and Innovation Office.  The Library has created an excellent resource for Research Data Management information and support which is now live on their website under the Scholarly Communications section:  We strongly encourage everyone to visit this website and familiarize themselves with research data management.  More detailed information on Planning, Collecting and Sharing of research data can be found by clicking on the boxes at the bottom of the main Research Data Management page.

We will continue to work towards a draft of our institutional research data management strategy in anticipation of the approved and implemented Tri-Agency Research Data Management Policy.  If you have questions about research data management and your research, please feel free to reach out to either Jennifer Cleary, Research Development, or Brianne Selman, Scholarly Communications and Copyright Librarian.
