Important NSERC Discovery Grant and RTI Information

Mon. May. 15, 2017

This message signals the start of another competition cycle. Researchers who intend to apply for a Discovery Grant in the 2018 competition must submit a Notification of Intent to Apply (NOI) by the deadline date of August 1, 2017, 8:00 p.m. (ET).  NSERC does not accept any NOI after the deadline.

Consult the Memo to Potential Applicants for information regarding the 2018 discovery grants competition.

Again this year, NSERC will be hosting webinars to further assist you and the researchers with the application process. Consult the Webinars page for dates.

Update - Research Tools and Instruments (RTI) program

Further to a consultation with the research community about the Research Tools and Instruments (RTI) program, NSERC is returning to the processes that were in place before the establishment of university quotas (2014 to 2017). The university quotas will be removed and the 2018 RTI competition will be open to all eligible Canadian university researchers. Researchers will be able to participate on one application per competition, either as an applicant or a co applicant, but not both.

The RTI program description and instructions will be updated accordingly and will be available at the beginning of August. The application for the RTI Program will be available in the Research Portal at the same time.  The deadline date for submitting an RTI application is October 25, 2017 at 8 p.m. (ET).  The internal deadline for RTI applications is Tuesday, October 10th.
