Internal Call For Proposal - 2016 NSERC Research Tools & Instruments Competition

The objective of Research Tools and Instruments (RTI) Grants is to support the purchase or development of research equipment with a total net cost of $7,001 to $250,000. This is a one-year award only.

Each year NSERC gives institutions a quota for the number of applications which can be forwarded from the institution.  For Fall 2016 our quota is 2.  This means that an internal call and selection process must take place in order to determine which two RTI applications will be sent forward from UWinnipeg this year.  The quota system does not apply to the subatomic physics program.

Internal Process

As per NSERC regulations, applicants and co-applicants must each currently hold or be applying for an NSERC research grant (Discovery, Strategic Partnerships, Collaborative Research and Development, Canada Research Chairs, Canada Excellence Research Chair) at the time of application (October 25, 2016).

The internal proposal should be 2 pages (maximum) and must:

  • Describe the major thrust of the research program(s)
  • Describe the suitability of the proposed equipment for the research program(s)
  • Describe the urgency for the equipment, including availability of and access to similar equipment
  • Describe the importance of the equipment for the training of HQP
  • Provide a budget and budget justification

Applications must be accompanied by a NSERC Canadian Common CV

The Research Office will notify all internal applicants of the results.
