2016 University of Winnipeg Chancellor's Research Chair - Call For Proposals

Fri. Feb. 5, 2016

Tenured or tenure-track faculty members who are within 10 years of receiving their highest degree are invited to submit proposals for the University of Winnipeg’s fifth Chancellor's Research Chair.  Candidates for the Chancellor’s Research Chair must be emerging scholars, and should, at a minimum, be assistant or associate professors.

The award of a Chancellor's Research Chair is intended to encourage and sustain high levels of scholarly activity by faculty and to retain high quality faculty who have made, and will continue to make, exceptional contributions to research in their field. The candidates should be excellent emerging researchers who have demonstrated particular research creativity; have demonstrated the potential to achieve international recognition in their fields in the next five to ten years; have the potential to attract, develop and retain excellent trainees, students and future researchers; and be proposing an original, innovative research program of high quality.

The Chair will typically be awarded annually to an internal candidate for a non-renewable term of three years.

The award includes a research grant of $7,500 per annum and, in consultation with the Dean of the relevant Faculty, reimbursement to the incumbent's Department for teaching workload release as negotiated each year. This year's Chancellor's Research Chair will be awarded for September 1, 2016 and will remain in place until August 31, 2019.

All interested faculty are invited to submit a two-page proposal outlining the research project to be undertaken or continued and a CV. Applications will be evaluated by the Vice-President, Academic and Associate Vice-President, Research and Innovation, in consultation with the Deans. A recommendation for appointment will be made to the President, who will announce the result of the search process by May 1, 2016.

The deadline for proposals is Monday, March 7, 2016. Please submit proposals to the attention of Dr. Neil Besner, Vice-President, Academic and Dr. Jino Distasio, Associate Vice-President, Research and Innovation at researchoffice@uwinnipeg.ca.
