Wed. Jan. 14, 2015

Research Manitoba is the amalgamation of previous provincial research funding entities that include: the Manitoba Health Research Council, the Manitoba Research and Innovation Fund, the Health Research Initiative and the Manitoba Centres for Excellence Fund.  In joining these provincial funding groups it is intended that more coordinated province-based research will being undertaken.

Research Manitoba’s Operating Grants are now publicized with Investigator programs having a deadline of March 3rd, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. The two available Operating Grants are the New Investigator Operating Grants and Mid-Career Investigator Operating Grants, both of which are project grants. For the New Investigator Operating Grants, one must be within the first five years of their initial faculty appointment. To apply for the Mid-Career Investigator Operating Grants the applicant must be within 10 years of a post Associate Professor appointment.

For new investigators, grants are up to $75,000 for a maximum of three years. Only $10,000 can be used for small equipment over the three year grant. For mid–career investigators, grants are up to $75,000 for a maximum of two years. Only $10,000 can be used for small equipment over the two year grant. For the latter category, one cannot hold more than $50,000 as a Principal Investigator at the time of application.

These initiatives are intended to support the health research community in Manitoba. Such health research programming can greatly aid emerging and established researchers in carrying out their research pursuits.
