Community Drop-In and Access Programs

Recreation Services

Opened in September 2014, the $40 million Axworthy Health & RecPlex facility is 189,000-square-feet and features a large multi-use artificial turf, a 4-lane regulation rubberized sprint track and jump pit, a community gym and a multi-purpose room - specially designed for drumming circles and smudging ceremonies. It is a teaching, training, recreational, and multi-purpose facility for students, athletes, staff, and the community.

Funded in part by the province and the City of Winnipeg, the RecPlex is open to inner-city neighbourhood residents and community organizations one third of the time. The facility helps to alleviate the shortage of athletic and recreational space in the downtown area. The RecPlex is a place for everyone to learn, play and belong!

In partnership with the Spence Neighbourhood Association, the University of Winnipeg provides the facility spaces at no cost to community groups and area residents, with SNA organizing a variety of registration-based programs, as well as drop-in opportunities. For more information on the University of Winnipeg's commitment to the wider community, please see the Community Charter.

Following the recommendations of Manitoba Health relating to COVID-19, the Axworthy Health and RecPlex is closed until further notice. View our Recreation Services Notice to students, faculty, staff and public users for full details.

Check UWinnipeg's COVID-19 website regularly for ongoing updates.
