Alumni Affairs is proud to introduce a new scholarship for 2SLGBTQ* students at UW.

The University of Winnipeg Senate has approved a new scholarship for students who identify as members of the 2SLGBTQ* community. Available this fall, the newly created University of Winnipeg Alumni Association 2SLGBTQ* Student Award is a $500 award for a second-, third-, or fourth-year undergraduate student who is active in community service or demonstrates academic promise in research on topics with particular relevance to the 2SLGBTQ* community.

The award is initially funded by the Alumni Association Past Presidents Legacy Fund, which was created in 2010 by the UWinnipeg Alumni Council, as well as by the Mary C. Rowell Prize fund. Ongoing support for the award will include proceeds from sales of the Pride-themed “Belong” t-shirt that was designed by UWinnipeg last year for its Pride Week celebrations and is available for purchase at the UWinnipeg Campus Store or online.

"The University of Winnipeg is a special and important place to our 50,000-plus alumni community, and we are always looking for ways to give back and help new students succeed. Many of us also benefitted from the help of others, and we are thrilled that this new award will support the success of UWinnipeg students in the 2SLGBTQ* community,” said Ruth Dickinson, UWinnipeg Alumni Association President.

Eligible students may apply for the University of Winnipeg Alumni Association 2SLGBTQ* Student Award via the Awards & Financial Aid web page on the UWinnipeg website ( in July. The 2018-19 scholarship application deadline is October 5, 2018.
