Biography:

Carlos was born and raised in Portugal, and immigrated to Canada in 1976. He completed Bachelor degrees in Philosophy and Theology in Portugal and, upon arrival, continued his studies in Education at both the Universities of Winnipeg and Manitoba. Presently, Carlos holds an M.Ed. from the University of Manitoba, and his Master's thesis examined the maintenance of Portuguese as a heritage language in Winnipeg. Carlos has taught Portuguese in both the public school system and at the Division of Continuing Education, University of Winnipeg, since the 1980s. He has been a teacher with the Winnipeg School Division for the last 34 years. Carlos is a passionate educator, particularly in promoting the preservation of the Portuguese heritage in Winnipeg.
