Dr. Sabelo Ndlovu

Senior Lecturer, Monash International University, South Africa

Dr. Sabelo J. Ndlovu-Gatsheni is a Senior Lecturer at Monash International University and is based at the South Africa Campus where he is teaching International Studies. He is currently a Visiting Research Fellow at the African Studies Centre (ASC) at the Leiden University in the Netherlands up to the March 2007. Before joining Monash University, Ndlovu-Gatsheni held the positions of tenured Lecturer of History and Development Studies at the Midlands State University in Zimbabwe and Full-Time Teaching Asssistant of History at the University of Zimbabwe.

Ndlovu-Gatsheni holds a Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in History, Master of Arts in African History and a PhD in African History. By July 2007, Ndlovu-Gatsheni will be completing a Master of Education (Tertiary Teaching) at the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa. His doctoral research project on the historical dimension of democracy and human rights in Zimbabwe received financial support from the Swedish Agency for Research Co-operation with Developing Countries (SAREC).

Ndlovu-Gatsheni is a very active researcher on various aspects of African Studies and African History. His knowledge of Africa cuts across the wide spectrum of pre-colonial, colonial and post-colonial divides of African Studies. He is intensely interdisciplinary in his research approaches incorporating conceptual insights from gender, history, development studies, international studies, post-colonial studies, human rights, and democracy as well as security studies.

He has published over twenty pieces of academic work in the form of book chapters and journal articles, and is currently working on two books. He has presented more than twenty academic papers in Zimbabwe, Sudan, Ethiopia, South Africa and the United Kingdom.

His teaching interests are in African History, African International Studies, Contemporary African Politics and Development Studies.

Ndlovu-Gatsheni was born on June 6, 1968 in a place called Gwanda in Zimbabwe.
