CHARACTER OF THIS CLASSIFICATION LEVEL

In positions at this level, incumbents are responsible for providing a combination of technical assistance, analysis and clerical duties, in support of teaching and research.  Supervision is provided by more senior technicians, administrators or academics.  Assigning and reviewing tasks and training students and other employees at the same or lower levels may be requirements.

CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES WHICH ARE INTENDED TO ILLUSTRATE THE CHARACTERISTICS OF THIS CLASSIFICATION LEVEL AND SHOULD NOT BE INTERPRETED AS A DESCRIPTION OF ANY ONE INDIVIDUAL POSITION WITHIN THIS CLASSIFICATION LEVEL
  1. Advertises for study participants, books appointments, conducts sessions, records responses, and performs scoring and/or follow-up as required
  2. Monitors condition of computers, labs, supplies, equipment (e.g. video equipment), and arranges for service as required
  3. Operates equipment used for analysis of samples, keeps records and organizes results obtained for later review and analysis
  4. Maintains an inventory of equipment and supplies
  5. Checks completeness of data sometimes created by other employee(s) and makes corrections when necessary
  6. Collects relevant literature as required by the supervisor
  7. Organizes papers according to publisher's format(s) and may write sections of research papers
  8. Searches for relevant research papers from topics provided (by supervisor), compiles information from literature searches and requests books and articles from list(s) provided
  9. Learns software packages and maintains computerized files
  10. Enters data using statistical package and performs data analysis (e.g. factor analyses, multiple regression, multiple analysis of variants, etc.) and prepares reports
  11. Provides supervision, training and information when and as required on data entry analysis, computer operation, software and availability, technical consultation, safe equipment operation, proper techniques, etc.
  12. Monitors budgets for grants, keeps records as required and makes approved purchases on request
  13. Prepares graphs and data for slides and presentations
  14. Performs other related duties as required or assigned
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

The minimum qualifications required are:

Level of Formal Education

  • Completion of an undergraduate degree in a related discipline from a recognized institution or Diploma
Experience
  • Some directly related experience and/or training using qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • or
  • An acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions
  • Ability to assign work and provide introductory training to other employees at the same or lower levels where this is a requirement of the position
  • Ability to communicate effectively with faculty, staff, students, and the public
  • Ability to use software packages is required in some positions
  • Ability to perform data analysis, data entry and data scoring is required in some positions
  • Ability to complete work assignments independently
