Entrance Awards

Value: Ranges from $100 - $40,000    Application Deadline:  February 1, 2018

These are for all students who have not taken credits or completed a degree at The University. New students can be entering any of the University’s divisions for the first time – Undergraduate, Graduate, Collegiate, Professional, Applied and Continuing Education (PACE) or English Language Program (ELP).

The Donald V. Snider Memorial Fellowship

Value: $8,000   Application Deadline: August 15 

Applications will be received from any graduate of a Manitoba university who is enrolled or enrolling in one of The University of Winnipeg - University of Manitoba Joint Master's Programs.

Linda Brown and Vana Kirby Graduate Scholarship 

Value: Varies - approximately $1000  
Application Deadline
: Students - August 15, Graduate Programs - September 1

Established by Dr. Sandra Kirby, in honour of her sisters, Linda Brown and Vana Kirby. This scholarship will be awarded to a student or students enrolled in Graduate Studies at the University of Winnipeg. Preference may be given to graduate students with a disability.

Application: Student are expected to submit a CV, transcript, and if applicable, any documentation regarding a disability to their Graduate Program Chair. Graduate Program Committee Chairs should submit a letter of recommendation to the Faculty of Graduate Studies.


Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarships Program

Value: $6,000 (plus tuition waiver for term, if applicable) 
Application Deadlines: October 15 (Winter start), February 15 (Spring start), June 1 (Fall start) 

Awards valued at $6,000 will be given to University of Winnipeg students for research, scholarships, or internships in another Commonwealth country for a three to six month period. All Queen Elizabeth scholars will participate in a range of activities designed to allow them to integrate their academic learning with broader cross-cultural experiences.

The Canadian Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee Scholarships (QES) is managed through a unique partnership of Universities Canada(UnivCan), the Rideau Hall Foundation (RHF), Community Foundations of Canada (CFC) and Canadian universities. This program is made possible with the financial support from the Government of Canada, provincial governments and the private sector.

The University of Winnipeg was awarded a highly competitive grant of $825,000. The grant established the QES program, designed to develop global citizens through enriched academic, professional, and cross-cultural experiences. The Senator Thomas Crerar Scholarship

Value: $10,000.00  Application Deadline: August 15 or next business day

This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has completed their final undergraduate or M.A. qualifying year and is planning to enter a graduate program in Humanities with preference given to students showing an interest in Canadian History or Philosophy or the language and literatures of either French or English speaking peoples. This scholarship, named in honour of the late Senator Thomas Crerar, P.C., C.C., L.L.D., is established by a fund created by a bequest of Dorothy Naylor and administered by the Winnipeg Foundation.

Eligibility: Accepted to the first year of a master's program in Humanities at the University of Winnipeg and have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (B).

The University of Winnipeg Graduate Studies Scholarship (UWGSS)

Value: $15,000 for a period of 12 months. There are no automatic renewals for a second year.

Application Deadline: March 1 or next business day

General Terms: For full-time graduate students, in recognition of academic excellence and of contributions to community service. Students must demonstrate superior intellectual ability and academic accomplishment, holding a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.75 or greater for the last two completed years of study.

The University of Winnipeg Manitoba Graduate Scholarships (MGS)

Value: $15,000 for a period of 12 months. Students must apply to renew this scholarship.

Application Deadline: March 1 or next business day (to Graduate Program Chair)

General Information: The University of Winnipeg has established a Manitoba Graduate Scholarship (MGS) valued at $15,000 through an agreement between The University of Winnipeg and the Province of Manitoba to support research-based graduate studies and assist in attracting and sustaining excellent students from within and outside of the Province. Awards are made mainly on the basis of academic excellence, and are open to students who will be registered as full-time graduate students in a Master's program at The University of Winnipeg regardless of discipline during tenure of the award.

The University of Winnipeg President’s Scholarship for World Leaders (for International Students)

Value: $5,000    Application Deadline: Friday, June 1, 2018

The University of Winnipeg is pleased to announce the creation of 53 new entrance scholarships for international students who will be entering The University of Winnipeg for the first time.

Given to international students entering any of the University’s divisions for the first time – Undergraduate, Graduate, Collegiate, PACE or ELP. Applicants must have a minimum 80% admission average or equivalent, and must be involved in activities that demonstrate leadership.
