Contact: Deanna England
Location: 3C27

Facilitated by Jill Condra, Program Officer, Research Partnerships in the Office of Research and Innovation

According to the Federal Government’s Networks of Centres of Excellence “Knowledge that sits on a shelf helps no one.” This federal initiative is dedicated to funding the transfer of knowledge to those who can put it into practice, supporting collaborations with academia, industry and NGO’s. Further to this enterprise, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC) is currently engaged in knowledge mobilization activities through its “Imagining Canada’s Future” initiative, creating guidelines and funding opportunities for researchers.

Locally, The University of Winnipeg has placed a high priority on Knowledge Mobilization in its Integrated Academic and Research Plan. Our strategic directions emphasize that “[t]he knowledge produced by UWinnipeg faculty is used to influence policy, advance research, support communities, and strengthen the workforce of tomorrow. We need to explore opportunities and resources that will move UWinnipeg research even further into the public domain. We must continue to communicate the results of our research, scholarly, and creative activities, both internally and to the general public.”

Contributing to this mission, the Faculty of Graduate Studies is pleased to partner with the Office of Research and Innovation to offer a Knowledge Mobilization workshop for graduate students. Facilitated by Jill Condra, Program Office and Research Partnerships, this session will explore the idea of Knowledge Mobilization and how to develop and communicate plans for moving your research into action.
