Isabelle Hodgson

Isabelle Hodgson’s (she/her) path into Human Rights began in a surprisingly simple way. When she applied to the University of Winnipeg, she chose the program because it sounded interesting and never changed it. What started almost by accident became something she stayed with, largely because the program pushed her to think beyond individual issues and toward the systems shaping them.

Originally from a small, conservative rural town in Manitoba, Isabelle moved to Winnipeg because she wanted something different. She didn’t want to remain in the same environment she had always known, and she felt she would not grow if she stayed surrounded by the same perspectives. Studying Human Rights in Winnipeg exposed her to new conversations and ways of thinking. The program’s discussion-based structure challenged her early on, especially in courses that demanded strong critical engagement.
