Certificate in Urban and Community Planning

The Certificate in Urban and Community Planning (CUCP) is a NEW 30-credit-hour program designed for students interested in urban issues or a career in city planning or administration and is offered in partnership with Urban and Inner City Studies. The Certificate is best competed while pursuing four-year programs – either Honours or 4-year degree programs. The Certificate comprises 18 credit hours of core courses and 12 credit hours of electives intended to be fulfilled through the completion of elective courses already required for a degree. The Certificate is interdisciplinary – drawing on courses from Geography, Urban and Inner City Studies, Environmental Studies, History, Indigenous Studies, Political Science, and Economics.
All students are encouraged to consult with the Departmental Advisor for the Certificate on potential pathways to complete the Certificate. Contact the Advisor at s.mccullough@uwinnipeg.ca.
Process for completing the Certificate
The Certificate follows a prior learning model – where students complete the requirements on their own, track their own progress, and when complete submit the CUCP Tracking form to the Departmental Advisor. Fulfillment of requirements will be confirmed by the Advisor, forwarded to the Chair of the Department of Geography for signature, and forwarded to Student Records to add the Certificate to the student’s degree.
Students can track their progress on the CUCP Tracking Form.
