The Model School

The Model School is located within The University of Winnipeg Collegiate, with 50 students from grades 9 through 12 enrolled in the program each year. Each student is part of an Individualized Education Plan in which goals and objectives are formulated based on their individual needs. It is our goal to provide the opportunities and support needed to assist First Nation, Métis, new Canadian, and inner-city youth in achieving academic success and continuing on to post-secondary education. More than 59 students have successfully graduated from Model School since 2008, and 80% of those graduates have continued on to post-secondary studies.

The Model School’s unique proximity to The University of Winnipeg campus allows the program to offer its students full access to the University’s resources and facilities, which would not otherwise be available to high school students. The school has been developed as part of UWinnipeg’s community learning mandate and is done at no financial cost to their families. All Model School students are enrolled in the University’s Opportunity Fund Tuition Credit Account program, where they can earn up to $3,000 in tuition credits. They can use these tuition credits upon completion of Grade 12 to attend UWinnipeg.
