Help Support The Dr. Conny S. Anderson Memorial Bursary

The Dr. Conny S. Anderson Memorial Bursary was created in remembrance of Dr. Conny S. Anderson (1958-2018), a graduate and instructor of the Master of Marriage and Family Therapy Program. 

Conny was a cherished part of the Master of Marriage and Family Therapy community at the University of Winnipeg, and her legacy extends throughout the city and across Manitoba. She dedicated over 30 years of her life to helping individuals, couples and families with addiction and co-occurring mental health issues. After graduating from the MMFT Program, Conny earned a PhD in Psychology from California Coast University. Among her professional roles, Conny worked as the program director and then director of clinical services at Behavioral Health Foundation, she was a co-occurring disorders trainer at Manitoba Health, Addictions, Mental health and Spirituality; and at Aurora Recovery Centre, Conny was director of clinical programs. She was also a sought-after consultant in human resources management and program development. Conny touched so many peoples’ lives.

For nearly 10 years, we were fortunate that Conny brought her knowledge and experience to the MMFT program. She supervised practicum students working with families with complex issues in rural areas around Selkirk, Gimli and Beausejour. She also taught Family Therapy Research Methods and Assessing Addiction in the Family courses. With her years of experience as a program surveyor for the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities, Conny was instrumental in the MMFT program’s successful accreditation with the Commission on Accreditation for Marriage and Family Therapy Education.

Conny was trusted and respected by everybody - students and colleagues alike. She was integral, grounded, and compassionate. We miss her steady presence. Conny truly cared about her students and their growth as therapists. The Dr. Conny S. Anderson Memorial Bursary is a fitting tribute to Conny’s professional legacy of supporting people in overcoming adversity and training future therapists.
