Winnipeg, Manitoba – On May 28, 2018, The University of Winnipeg Foundation received a generous donation of $28,000 in support of The Winnipeg Police Opportunity Scholarship in Memory of Injured and Fallen Officers. The funding originates from the Winnipeg Police Community Challenge Golf Tournament and the Boston Pizza Tip a Cop fundraiser.

The Winnipeg Police Opportunity Scholarship in Memory of Injured and Fallen Officers was established in 2011 by the Winnipeg Police to support educational opportunities for students from North End and Downtown Winnipeg high schools. The Scholarship is designed to follow students throughout their University career. Preference is given to applicants who have made a contribution to or been involved with their school or community. The selection of the two students is based on a set of criteria including Academics, Commitment to Community, Trust, Integrity, Honesty, Respect, Leadership and Teamwork.

To date, there have been 11 scholarship recipients each receiving up to $2,500 annually. Thanks to donor generosity, the scholarship funding is nearing $200,000.00 in total.

The University of Winnipeg and the Foundation would like to thank the Winnipeg Police Service and Boston Pizza for their continued commitment and support to The University of Winnipeg.
