Back in the Office and Ready to Meet!

Fri. May. 27, 2022

With summer right around the corner and most workplace restrictions fully lifted, I’d like to take this opportunity to let our community of donors, alumni, business partners and friends know that both myself and the Foundation team are ready to meet with you whenever and wherever! After two and a half years, we would love to sit down (digitally or otherwise) with those interested in sharing their views on the Foundation, the University of Winnipeg, and the University of Winnipeg Collegiate. We also want to learn more about what impact you want to make in the educational space, and the general philanthropic priorities that guide your participation as a donor.

If you take a look at the “Contact Us” page on our website, you’ll notice the Foundation is likely smaller than you might imagine. With 12 full-time employees and a handful of University staff members who share part of the 9th floor of the Rice Building with us, the Foundation is all about doing more with less. While my official title places me at the head of our organization, my role encompasses many of the responsibilities shared across the various positions that make up the Foundation. Helping secure funding for new scholarships and bursaries as a development officer, managing our online presence to draw support in the same way that our Communications team does, and helping steward donor funds as part of our finance department are just a few examples of the projects I enjoy working on with our talented staff. Being a team player is important not only in helping facilitate the day-to-day operations that take place at the Foundation, but ensuring that my own expertise is varied enough to handle every question that might come my way when meeting with prospective donors and answer every concern from those who have been generously supporting us and our students for years.

Being able to meet with donors is something I truly love. Making sure our community knows that I am available and willing to hear their thoughts and help them troubleshoot issues or arrange a gift is part of what makes my job as President unique. Engaging with our donors, and putting a face to the email or letter you may have received remains a top priority—especially as more and more of us look forward to meeting in person once again.

So if you’re ever in the neighborhood and want to swing by, just know that both myself and any of our staff here at the Foundation will be happy to share a conversation with you. Talk soon!

In service,

Javier
