Full-Time EAL Teacher Certificate Program

English Language Programs


Our Full-Time English as an Additional Language Teacher Certificate Program (EALTCP) is has two sections; four courses covering 120 hours of TESL theory and methodology and a 20 hour practicum. A mandatory orientation is held on the first day of classes from 9:00 am - 2:00 pm.

Course Section

  • Course 1: Thinking about Theory: A Framework for EAL Instruction
  • Course 2: Understanding the Language Classroom: Procedures for Effective Teaching
  • Course 3: Developing the Language System: Teaching Grammar and Vocabulary
  • Course 4: Developing the Language Skills: Teaching Second Language Reading, Writing, Speaking, and Listening

Practicum Section

  • 10 hours of EAL classroom observation
  • 10 hours supervised practicum

Session Information

Winter Program

Dates: January 15 - March 2, 2018

7 weeks of classes, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, followed by a practicum placement lasting a minimum of 2 weeks.

Spring Program

Dates: May 14 - Friday, June 29, 2018

7 weeks of classes, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, followed by a practicum placement lasting a minimum of 2 weeks.

Summer Program - Intensive

Dates: July 3rd -  July 27, 2018

4 weeks of classes, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 4:30 pm, followed by a practicum placement lasting a minimum of 2 weeks. NOTE: Practicum placements for summer program will be made on the first come, first serve basis. There is no guarantee for practicum placement in summer session.

Fall Program

Dates:September 10 - October 26th, 2018

7 weeks of classes, Monday - Friday, 9:00 am - 4:00 pm, followed by a practicum placement lasting a minimum of 2 weeks.

The course section of the full-time EAL Teacher Certificate Program costs $2000. The practicum placement fee is an additional $250, and can be paid when the student registers for the placement.
