Caravan Archaeologies Workshop/Taller de Caravanas Arqueológicas

Dear Colleague,

We are pleased to inform you that the Caravan Workshop has started its journey to arrive in Pica, Chile for 3-5 May 2017. The Oasis of Pica has been a crossroads of llama caravans for thousands of years, and thus provides a worthy setting for the Workshop. We have received sufficient funding to guarantee some funding for all of you, and hope to be able to fund all of you fully. We will provide further updates in October.

The Workshop is intended to promote discussion and dissemination of ideas by enhancing and  creating new collaborative networks. The topics around which we have framed this discussion are included here, and serve as a guideline for you prepare a working paper that can be circulated to all of the participants at least 60 days prior to the meeting in May. Although we are not looking for a formal presentation, you are welcome to present your ideas in a format that you prefer. We ask you to keep in mind that we have a commitment from the peer-review journal Estudios Atacameños to publish the proceedings of the workshop in a dedicated volume. The official languages of the workshop are Spanish and English, and you can provide your final written submission in either language. Translation will be available during the Workshop.

At a later date we will provide additional information regarding travel to Chile, the participants, the workshop schedule and events, and the town of Pica.  At that time we will solicit specific information about your travel documents, your departure airport, special food requirements, and if you plan to travel with a companion. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

In the meantime, would you please confirm via email your intention to participate?

Sincerely,

PLEASE NOTE

Regretfully, the Caravan Archaeologies Workshop is an event open only to pre-invited specialists, and as such will not be open to the general public. However, we hope to transmit the event via streaming or on the Escallonia YouTube Channel the week after the event. Further, two of the workshop participants will present a talk open to the Pica community at the Pica Municipal Museum; details to follow.
