John Olfert

John Olfert

BA, FCPA, FCGA

John Olfert was an exemplary student who embodied leadership and passion throughout his time at The University of Winnipeg and with the Wesmen Athletics Men’s Volleyball program.

Thus, it's no surprise he brought those same qualities to his leadership role as President and Chief Operating Officer of True North Sports + Entertainment and the Winnipeg Jets Hockey Club (True North), where he has helped shape Winnipeg’s sports and entertainment community.

Olfert, who completed his Bachelor of Arts in Administrative Studies at UWinnipeg in 1991, has been part of True North’s leadership team for more than two decades.

Olfert began his career at True North as its Chief Financial Officer, before being appointed as the President and COO. During his tenure, he has been instrumental in the development of the Canada Life Centre and hockey for all centre, the acquisition of the NHL’s Winnipeg Jets, and the return of the AHL’s Manitoba Moose. He currently serves as an Alternate Governor for the Winnipeg Jets on the NHL’s Board of Governors.

Olfert also remains an ardent UWinnipeg supporter, be it through guest lectures or supporting the Wesmen Scholarship Fund.

Prior to joining True North, Olfert spent several years working in roles with Winnipeg-based not-for-profit entities. He has also remained active in the community, both coaching and on the Boards of Directors that have included: U SPORTS, Volleyball Manitoba, and the True North Youth Foundation.

In 2019, UWinnipeg’s Business Administration Students’ Association honoured Olfert with its Distinguished Alumni Award, and he has been named a Fellow by the Chartered Professional Accountants of Manitoba.

The University of Winnipeg Alumni Association is proud to recognize John Olfert as the recipient of its highest honour, the Distinguished Alumni Award.
