Admission

All students must be admitted to the PBDE Program in order to register for courses.

Admission deadlines

  • February 1 - for courses that take place in the Spring Term (May to August)
  • May 1 - for courses that take place in the Fall Term (September to December)
  • November 1* - for courses that take place in the Winter term (January to April)

*Please note that registration for both the Fall and Winter terms begins in mid-June. Students are encouraged to apply as early as possible so that they can register before courses fill.

Our admission deadline dates ensure that students can be admitted before registration for the subsequent term begins. Students can apply after these deadline dates, but we cannot guarantee that there will be space in all courses. We encourage all students to apply by the published deadline dates in order to maximize the availability of required and preferred courses.

To be eligible for admission to the PBDE, students must:

  • have maintained a minimum GPA of 2.0 in all degree or after-degree programs
  • hold a Bachelor of Education degree (or equivalent)
  • students who hold a Bachelor's degree in an area other then Education may apply to the General Stream only, provided that they have two years of full time work experience in a school setting (students must submit a resume and references verifying this experience).

To apply for admission, students must submit the following documents:

  • An application form - online, https://uwinnipegca.elluciancrmrecruit.com/Apply/Account/Create
  • An application fee of $100.00 (payable by credit card during online application, send cheque/money order by mail)
  • Official university transcripts (students who graduated from UW, and have not attended any other institutions since, do not need to submit a transcript)

Tips for Completing the Online Application for PBDE (for new applicants and returning UW Grads)

  • Application Type: I wish to pursue Undergraduate Studies.
  • Student Type: I graduated from University or college, and want to pursue a program of study at UWinnipeg.
  • You will fill in your personal info, the next screen will ask for the Faculty applying to, you will choose Faculty of Education.
  • Once you pick the Faculty, you will choose a program from drop down menu, choosing Education - Post-Baccalaureate Diploma.
      • You will then choose the stream (General, Spec Ed or Counselling).

Visiting Students

A visiting Student is someone who is currently enrolled in a program of studies at another post-secondary institution, but who wants to complete University of Winnipeg course(s) for transfer credit back to their home institution. To apply as a visiting student, you need to

If your home institution requires a course outline, please contact the Office Assistant at 204.258.3030. Please be advised the course outlines may not be available until shortly before a course begins.

Visiting students are only able to register for those courses listed on the Letter of Permission, and only if there is space available. Visiting students must have completed course work equivalent to any UW prerequisites. Certain courses are not available to Visiting students. You should keep a copy of your Letter of Permission, in case you need it to register in courses.
